I was able to meet up with my dear friend Jackie while we were in Utah. We were able to catch up and spend not near enough time together. She is such an amazing person and I love her to death! We went to Gardner's Village and they have it all set up for Halloween. I could have spent all day there. Jackie was kind enough to take some of these cute pictures of Andi.

The things WE say...
Carter has been saying the darndest things! And where does he learn them? From us!!! Whenever something comes out of his mouth I soon realize that it's something I say a lot, like....
"That's enough Mom."

I am posting this blog first before the one under it. You'll know the end from the beginning, so there is no surprise, but I didn't want anyone to get excited if they read the second post first... does that makes sense? It will if you read on. Sorry this is a bit graphic and a bit personal.
I had a miscarriage. I miscarried 7 weeks and 4 days into my pregnancy. I found out I was pregnant, saw my baby on the monitor and saw his heartbeat the same day I miscarried. It felt like a big joke that I would find out and see my baby and see that everything was "okay" and then to have all my hopes and excitement crushed that very same evening.
The pregnancy wasn't right from the get go. The post below explains all that. When I started having some heavy cramping that night and even more bleeding, I looked at Jefferson and said, "This can't be a good sign." Sure enough I miscarried (or whatever the correct term is) just a few hours later. Everything was still perfectly in tact. The placenta was whole and we could see our little blueberry of a baby, arms and all. I was surprised at the level of emotions I felt. I thought I was pretty prepared for a miscarriage. I had a good long sob for a few hours that night. Jefferson was very good with just holding me and letting me cry.
I got teary quite a few times the next day, but feel better about it every day. I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for us and our little family. Thank you for those who already know and have been so kind and loving. Next time around.
How the Harmon 5 came about
I am writing this today, September 25, 2008, but probably won't post it for another month or so.. you'll see why as you read on.
Most people know that I have always wanted all of my kids close together. A lot of people wrongly assume that my kids were an accident or say thoughtless comments like, "The first three years will be hell for you." (yes, some woman in the store said that to me) If that's the truth, then I am going to have it so easy for the rest of their lives. I love having my kids close and wouldn't have it any other way.
When Andi was about 10 or 11 months old we thought that we should probably start trying for baby #3. That seemed like good timing. When we didn't get pregnant the first month, I wasn't surprised, but I was surprised. My other two babies I conceived a month or two before we even started "trying." But, it's to be expected that it might take my cycle a couple of months to even out after having nursed for eleven months and being on birth control. Alright, it's bound to happen month two. It didn't. Not months three, four, or five, either. Then at the beginning of September I told Jefferson that this was the month, I could feel it. Then, much to my dismay, not only did my period come, it came a week early! And not only did it come a week early and smash all my hopes of pregnancy, it came for 21 days straight!! That is no lie. Not only was I bleeding, but I was tired, emotional, nauseous and my face was breaking out like crazy. I called my OB wondering if 21 days of bleeding was normal. I had recently had a pap smear and they weren't too worried, thinking it was probably just some funky way my body was evening out. Finally that nightmare of a period ended. Ok, now I thought we could try ovulation tests to figure out my cycle the next month. I didn't even have time to say "ovulation predictor kit" before I started my period again, exactly one week after my 21 day marathon period ended. Now I was really ticked.
I called my OB to explain what had happened and they wanted me to come in and get some blood work. Specifically a pregnancy test because they thought I was probably having a miscarriage. I got my blood drawn and they promptly called about 15 hours later to tell me they wanted me in for an ultrasound, because indeed, my pregnancy hormone was high. That was this morning. I took Jefferson and the kids home from running errands and headed straight to the doctor's office.
I guess the thought that I might be pregnant hung around somewhere in the deepest recesses of my mind because I bled a full cycle with Carter, but really, with the amount of bleeding I was having, I was fully braced for a miscarriage. They did an internal exam and the ultrasound tech said, "Here's your uterus." And I see a big black hole in it, and I start thinking that I recognize that.... And then she said, "And this is what we see when someone is pregnant... the yoke sack." There it was, then she zoomed in on it, and there was a little rhythmic pulse, "And there is the heartbeat.... yup, sounds perfect." After looking at a bunch of different angles and checking out my ovaries, she said everything looks perfect and my baby's little heartbeat is perfect. I just had a few tears run down my cheek. I asked if I shouldn't get my hopes up because I was bleeding so much and she did admit that until the first trimester is over, there is always a higher risk of miscarriage, but she said everything looks great and congratulated me. I could not believe it!!! I am pregnant!!! 7 weeks 4 days along, due May 10, 2009.
I am already so in love with my baby, who is the size of a blueberry. We are calling him/her "beebee" (for baby and blueberry). Jefferson has been waiting on me hand and foot and calling me his "preggers." I love it. Jefferson and Carter went out and got a pizza so I wouldn't have to cook tonight. When they got back I heard a little knock at the door and went to unlock it for Carter. I opened it up, and there stood my little two year old holding a big bouquet of beautiful fall flowers and he said, "Congratulations mama." It was so tender. I think I may cry right now just writing about it.
I have been researching "first trimester bleeding" on the internet all night so that my eyes feel like they are going to shrivel up and fall out of their sockets. Truth be told, there is nothing that I can do if I miscarry. I am having some cramping tonight and am just holding my breath and praying that this baby is ok. I am also trying to prepare myself in case something does go awry. What I want to do is forget about all the bleeding I am having and rest easy knowing that my little body is making another human life. I am trying to be optimistic that things will be ok. But that's why I am holding on to my little secret a little longer. I just want to get into safer ground before I share our big announcement. But I am screaming it from the rooftops tonight: I am pregnant with another child!!
The wondeful world of break
I wouldn't say that I forgot how much I love being around my husband, but this last week has been a great reminder of what an amazing, family oriented, loving, fun, funny husband I have. He is such a great support to me, especially when I have trials. He always knows the right things to do and say. We always have such a great time with the kids, but we especially have fun after the kids go to bed when it's just the two of us. :) We just enjoy spending time together, whether it's cuddling while watching a movie, or battling it out in Mario Kart on the Wii. I am going to miss him like CRAZY while I am away all next week visiting my sister in Utah. (and Carter too)

Carter was distracted by a squirrel in the tree:
Our attempt at a self family portrait... we need to work on that. I am pretty sure both Andi and Carter are looking at a dog in front of us...
Tonight we went out to dinner at Muchas Gracias (delicious, greasy Mexican food!) and headed to Bella Vista park afterwards. Andi has fine tuned her walking skills and walks about 95% of the time. Only when she is in a real hurry, like when Carter is chasing her, does she revert to crawling. (see video below) Carter is just as crazy as ever. He speaks in full sentences, and it surprises me almost every time he opens his mouth. They certainly keep us on our toes.

Baby Andrus
To Grandfather's house we go...
Last Thursday Jefferson finished up finals and passed with flying colors. We celebrated at the Olive Garden with one of our friends, Ty. It was so much fun to sit and chat and not have studying looming over Jefferson's head. Dinner was delicious, and the kids were mostly good throughout the whole ordeal. Ty loves Andi, and Andi has an affinity for Ty, too. So, after we were done eating, Ty decides to get Andi out of her highchair and have her join him over in his seat to play while letting dinner settle. Little did Ty know that all of Andi's dinner was going to come up and land all over his lap and shoes. So sorry Ty!! I just passed it off as a fluke, something she ate, kind of thing.
The next morning the kids and I loaded up to head to my parent's house down in Klamath. My mom has been off on a three week hiatus and I figured my dad could use a little company and that my husband could use a little peace and quiet to unwind from a stressful week of boards and studying. The kids were awesome in the car watching movies and listening to music. About two hours out of Klamath, Carter's snacks make a comeback. Nice. I clean him up and we head off again. An hour later, the rest of his snacks come up. All right, enough of that. I clean him up, strip him down, and we are back on the road in less than five minutes.
We make it to Grandpa's house, aka toddler fantasy land. They live on five acres on the top of a mountain with no visible neighbors, a pool, fourwheeler, horses, a playhouse, a big wheel. We have a relaxing evening, Carter hurls up his dinner and seems to be feeling fine and we all head to bed happy. That night I was up all night busy being sick, but managed to make it through Saturday and even started eating Saturday night. Thank heavens that was the end of it for all of us. 24 hours of it and it bi passed Jefferson.
Then we enjoyed the rest of the weekend away. We hot tubbed, rode the four wheeler, went on walks, fed the horses, played with the dogs, played with all of Grandma and Grandpa's toys, and played in what Carter has dubbed "Mickey's clubhouse." My little sister Alli was only there for Friday evening and Saturday morning, but it was fun to see her for a little bit.
Whenever I asked Carter if he wanted to go on the fourwheeler, or if Carter asked to go on a ride and I offered to take him, he would say, "No! Grandpa!" He would only ride with Grandpa. That boy loves his grandparents.
We had such a fun weekend and it was a nice change of pace. Thanks for taking care of us Dad! I hope we didn't get you sick!
