The middle: Girls'/Kids' Week

After the blessing in Salem on Sunday we all headed down to Klamath Falls; the girls and the kids that is. And inevitably when you have a "girls' week" with kids tagging along, it kind of turns into a "kids' week" in a very fun and delightful way.My mom was very prepared to have us all there. She had a lot of really fun activities ready for us and the kids to do. Each activity could have been a blog post in and of itself. It started off with private swimming lessons everyday from a gal in my mom's ward who teaches at the local public pool. Carter and Andi loved it! All the kids did great really. My kids aren't very timid in water so they were pretty willing to try everything. It was a great little beginning class. We spent a lot of time in the pool every day. Andi got her nails painted by Gramzee. She was so excited. Andi LOVES her Grandma. I think if given the choice that she would choose to permanently reside with her Grandma if I let her. I won't let her. :)
One day we spent the morning riding the trolley through downtown. The kids thought they were pretty special not having to sit in a car seat or wear seatbelts.
After the trolley ride was over we headed down to the park to feed the ducks. It was mostly just geese, but they were being friendly enough and I think they got their fill off the five or so loaves of bread we had... the kids got their fill too.
My parents have an industrial sized snowcone machine so we were treated to snowcones pool side. They were divine. No pictures, I was too busy enjoying mine. :) We went out to eat a few times, but mostly just enjoyed delicious home cooked meals.
The girls spent nap times and evenings swimming, lounging poolside, playing games, eating treats, popping popcorn, painting nails, watching SYTYCD, chatting, and roasting mallows at the fire pit.
On Thursday of Girls' Week, my two brothers and one of my two brother-in-laws headed to Boise to have what we girls entitled "Bromance." They played for two days together... we're not sure doing what, and we're not sure we want to know. We know their was Wii playing and perhaps a little DI shopping... keep reading to see what treasures they found there. They only wished my dad and Nic could have made it. Next year.
Finally on Saturday the boys arrived. We loved seeing them and hanging out for a few minutes, but then the ladies were off to shop and go out to lunch.
That night my parents rented out a candy shop down on Main Street. It was so much fun!! They had the back room set up for us with bags of cotton candy and popcorn set out for each of us. There were goody bags set out for all the kids. Endless fresh squeezed lemonade. And if that wasn't enough, we then got to go up and eat as much ice cream as we wanted. I think we all restrained ourselves and limited it to one cup/cone/shake each. After which, the kids got to go pick out about $50 worth of candy. That's a lot of candy!! I think we were all in heaven. Just yesterday Andi asked if we could go to a candy shop.
Alli feeding Tay some cotton candy. She may be her favorite aunt now. :)
My parents:
Josh, Summer, Reece & Remi:
Sharon, Ben & Hudson:
Nikki, Sam & Jameson:
Alli & Nic:
It was also Nikki's birthday so we had a nice "grown-up" dinner after the kids were in bed followed by chocolate cake. Then the boys had a little surprise for us. They showed up on the porch, ringing the doorbell at 9 at night in these little ensembles.... and I mean little.Unfortunately, these outfits showed up throughout the remainder of the trip at random times.

The beginning.

I braved the drive to Salem with my kids to attend my brother's baby's blessing. My kids were amazing. I think they know that I might snap if they are too bad when just with me in the car. :) They were angels the whole way. We stopped in Portland to do dinner with a couple of my girlfriends and their kids. It was too short, but fun to see all the kids playing together again. Two of them had brand new babies too, so it was fun to meet their little guys. Again, it was too short of a trip and there was so much more we wish were able to do and people we wished we were able to see, but it was off to Salem on July 4th.
We had a great start to the day "hiking" Silver Falls. The kids did great and kept up and the falls were beautiful. Taytum's a bit big for the front pack, but it was that or carry her on my hip, and the front pack was the much better choice. Thank goodness there were lots of helping hands to wrangle all the toddlers.
We did a BBQ at my brother's house with homemade root beer and all. The kids enjoyed playing outside on their swing set and eating 4th of July cupcakes. We threw off a few popits, but that was about the extent of our fireworks. We headed down to Riverfront Park and played at the playground there and rode the carousal. Alli was kind enough to take my kids on it. We were the last ride of the night so the worker gave all the kids free bags of popcorn afterwards.
We all had our matchy-matchy shirts. It made me laugh to see us moving in a herd.
Sunday was Hudson's blessing. It was great to be in attendance. We had a delicious brunch before church and then enjoyed church and then headed to K Town.

To be continued...

Where'd July go?!

I cannot believe we are already approaching the end of July. It has been one crazy, busy, fun, traveling month. First was a trip to Salem for my brother's baby's blessing. Then all the girls in my family + kids headed down to Klamath Falls for a one week Girls'/Kids' week. Next the boys all joined us for a week in Sunriver. We got back and a few days later and Jefferson's sister returned home from serving a 1 1/2 year mission for our church so we headed down to Burley/Twin Falls for a night for a big family dinner. And the month isn't over yet... I still have Taytum's birthday in just a few days!!!! I'll catch up soon... promise.

happy birthday/not so happy party

How is the weather here in Meridian you ask? Beautiful, warm & sunny today. How was it Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday? Also warm and mostly sunny. How was it Friday you ask? Well, on Monday Friday was supposed to be upper 80s and all sun. Tuesday said Friday was going to be mid 80s and mostly sunny. Wednesday said Friday was going to be low 80s and partly cloudy. Thursday said Friday was going to be thunderstorms all day. Thursday was right.

Friday was Andi's birthday! She wanted a party at Settler's Park which is only a few blocks away and has an awesome sprayground for the kids. Friday started out very overcast and remained so all day. It was still rather warm, slightly humid, but there had been no sign of any precipitation all day until..... 30 minutes before the party. It started to sprinkle and was supposed to pass within 10 minutes or so. It did. So we went ahead and kept Andi's party at the park. It was definitely cooling off, but our kiddos were fearless and went ahead and jumped right into the water.
I had planned on putting up balloons and crepe paper and there was a banner up at one point, but the chance of rain and little bit of wind was not allowing for the decorating I was hoping for. I did manage to put up our treat table. We had Andi's requested pink cupcakes and then a few bowls of pink candies: strawberry whoppers, pink sour straws, all reds starbursts, and pink wafer cookies.
Even with our meager decorating we had about 3 or 4 moms come over and say how cute it looked.
Despite the cooling temperatures and lack of sun, the birthday girl still managed to have a good time.
We got all the kids fed... hot dogs per Andi's request, (even after her mother's attempts at persuading her to choose something else), chips, pasta salad ("noodles"), watermelon, drinks...
And then the hurricane force winds set in after only about thirty minutes at the park. Out of nowhere these huge gusts of winds came blowing in, blowing over plates, presents, and even glass bowls filled with the candy. I wish we had more action shots because everyone pretty much just laid themselves out over the tables to prevent everything from blowing away. We all got a good laugh.
We were done and decided to move the party back to our house. All the parents were good sports about loading and unloading their kids again. The guys all pitched in and loaded up all of our goods in no time. Luckily I had decorated a little bit that morning just for fun for Andi. It wasn't a lot, but the house wasn't totally barren. It was not as clean as I would have hoped, but it was going to have to do. And I was not prepared for an indoor party.
Kids being kids, they were happy playing with their balloons, dancing, and playing freeze dancing (as Alec pointed out was the name of it and then told me, "Oh, that's so easy." He cracks me up!) At one point all of the kids were sitting around the table just shoveling in all the pink candies. It was too funny. Andi didn't seem to notice or mind that her party had somewhat fallen apart.
Then we had cupcakes on top of that.
Andi & Zach are such good buds:
Bailey & Bostyn:Ty, Ben, Bostyn, Teage, Carter & Alec: (yes, they are mostly boys. There are no children Andi's age, let alone any girls! There's a baby boom Carter's age in this area, and then one year younger than Andi. Poor girl.)
Andi got tons of fun stuff: Strawberry Shortcake doll, movie, & coloring book, Cinderella polly pocket, a girl pirate costume, Tinkerbell pajamas, more play food, wallet with play money, doodle soap for the bath... She LOVES all of her gifts!
If, however, you ask her what her favorite part of her whole birthday was, she would say these:
"Lips."
Yes, mother knows best, and I knew she would love these "lips." Can you tell she likes them? Look at that glossy shine she has going on!
This morning Carter and Taytum slept about 20 minutes longer than Andi, so she and I got to take all of her presents out of their wrapping and play with them. She dressed up Cinderella a hundred times, brushed and smelled Strawberry Shortcake, and played in her pirate costume all day.
When Carter woke up and saw Andi in her pirate costume, he wanted to join the fun. I think his costume is a 2T, so we might need to upgrade to bigger one. "Show me your mean mug!" Thank you to everyone who came and party hopped! Sorry it was not exactly what we had planned. Andi had a great birthday though!
Remind me next year to skip the parties and just take the kids out to dinner or something. :)
And PS... the second the party was over, everything cleared up, there were blue skies and sunshine.
